With “Düsseldorf feiert”, AO Multimedia & Drones transformed the closing night of Rheinkirmes Düsseldorf 2026 into a spectacular celebration of the city, its people and its cultural identity.

Created together with the St. Sebastianus Schützenverein Düsseldorf von 1316 e. V., the production demonstrated how innovation can enhance tradition rather than replace it. Precisely choreographed drone formations were combined with the traditional closing fireworks to create one powerful multimedia experience — bringing two very different technologies together in the same night sky. The drone show created an emotional finale in the night sky, culminating in a specially designed transition to the Rheinkirmes’ traditional closing fireworks. During the final sequence, drones and pyrotechnics briefly shared the sky before the fireworks took over — seamlessly connecting a new generation of aerial storytelling with one of the event’s most established traditions.

Iconic local symbols became part of the visual world: the famous Düsseldorf cartwheeler, the Rheinkirmes Ferris wheel, and a spectacular DJ octopus were transformed into large-scale aerial images reaching heights of up to 300 metres.

Presented as part of an event attracting around 4.1 million visitors, the production illustrates the potential of drone shows as a powerful new instrument for city marketing, destination branding and major public events. Local identity can be transformed into emotional visual stories that engage audiences on site while creating highly shareable content with reach far beyond the event itself.

Together with the world premiere of “ART IN THE SKY – Inspired by Düsseldorf”, the first drone show during the Rheinkirmes Düsseldorf 2026 some days before, the production also demonstrated the versatility of the medium: two completely different creative concepts, each with its own visual language, both using the sky to create a strong emotional connection between people and place.
